Updating database server
Hello!
We will be updating the database server that is feeding this site this afternoon. This will also affect email to this domain . We should be back up and running in a few hours.
And now… Zombies:

Commenting has been re-enabled
Due to new requirements in Django regarding cross-site security, comments have had to be disabled until the migration could be dealt with. This has now been fixed and comments are now working again.

Switching DNS providers
At some point during the weekend, we will be switching DNS providers. This will mean that for some users, there will be a downtime of up to 48 hours (but more than likely much much less), depending on how often user DNS servers refresh their cache.
The current target is Saturday night, but may change at the last moment.

Downtime tonite
Hellooo, It’s that time of year again. Yes, sleepless nights. Things that go bump, and an OS upgrade. The web server will go down this evening for a few hours and fires will be fought until everything is back to normal. I expect some issues with the Django install, but nothing major.

Moving offices. Again!
There will be a small outage as we move the server to a new shared office with F. Preparations are underway to convert my cave into a suitable habitat for the new arrival. It should just be down the time it takes to shutdown the webserver, move it downstairs and boot it back up.

Lean and Mean
Hello boils and ghouls! (I always wanted to use it before I look like the cryptkeeper)
The conversion seems to have worked with only a few issues remaining on the backend to straighten out. The conversion of the public side and basic functionality only took an hour or two. It seems that it took me much longer to actually find two consecutive hours to dedicate to the conversion.
I have removed quite a bit of half completed applications of questionable utility on this website and will concentrate on fixing everything that needs to be fixed before moving on to other ...

Mostly dead means partly alive!
The last Ubuntu distro release destroyed my existing apache/django install, right when I was gearing up to do a major construction project on the house. Now that it is complete, I may now turn my attention to the borked install. Miracle Max would be proud.

Small Fix Applied
I recently noticed that a small bug had crept into the army performance page of the site. A rogue “$” was eradicated and now works as intended. Well at least it looks good from Lynx, since I’m still rebuilding a FreeBSD install.

Twitter taking over blog! News at eleven...
Well ever since I’ve discovered Twitter about 2 months back, I’ve adopted the micro-blogging mentality with a vengeance. It requires zero effort and is quick, something that normal blogging isn’t. (Well for me at least)
The silver lining in all of this is that it frees up this website to focus on a single thing (or group of things) instead of pretending to be an entertaining blog. What that single thing is, of course, is up in the air since I haven’t thought of it yet. It’s a push in the right direction tho. I ...

Almost a flawless upgrade
The OS upgrade procedure was 90% successful. The web server seems to have returned to default behavior. I shall fix it asap.

Welcome to the wired world
I finally got fed up with all the interference to the web server’s wireless connection. I ran some cat5 around the office. This server should be mostly up now instead of mostly down. Sorry for the previous 2 week’s problems.

Workbench Reset
The miniature workbench display had to be reset. The internal structure was reworked to something a little bit more scalable and thus the existing data wasn’t compatible anymore. (read: I couldn’t be bothered to write a conversion script.)
So the thing has been wiped clean of data and will be repopulated as the need arises.

Articles are-a coming
I had to jump the gun on the release of the quickie blogging software i’ve been working on. That means that quite a few features that I have been working on are incomplete or just plain broken. In other words, article details and comments are not currently working, nor are RSS/atom feeds and tags archives. These features will be completed eventually. I’ll try to keep entries short until then.
Edit: Oh Yeah, Pagination? What pagination? Yup, that goes on my to-do list as well. At one point i’ll just have to skin this site as well ...
