Canada Post not best liars

I ordered a book from Amazon recently. No biggie, everyone does it, and I do it on occasion as well.

Now when you order a book from Amazon in canada you get an Expresspost tracking number so that you know a estimated delivery date, and amazon knows that the package has indeed been delivered and not lost. Yesterday was the delivery date on the book and I was waiting at home for it. all day. No package came.

Imagine my surpise when I check on the canadapost site to see that delivery was attempted, and that a delivery notice card was left. I heard no doorbell, nor was a card left in the mailbox. First thought: Doorbell broken. try it. It works. Second thought: They got the address wrong and attempted to deliver somewhere else. According to the tracking info, the package was available for pick up at my local post office.

To make sure that I head off the stranger at the pass, and pick up my book before he does, I head on to the post office this morning and pick up the package. I’ve been reading the book all day and is actually meh if you must know.

But I digress. In today’s mail, I see the mentionned delivery notice card and think I may have missed it yesterday. Then I check the date on the thing, it’s today. (That’s Jan 30th for those keeping score). And again, there seemed to have been no answer at our house… with me in it all day. Apparently I can pick up the phantom package after 17h on the 30th.

So to recap:

  1. Jan 29th: a delivery was attempted without ringing the doorbell, nor card left. Item available to pickup in the evening.
  2. Jan 30th: Morning. I pick up said package first thing in the morning (actually had to wait a bit for them to unlock the doors… but that;s neither here nor there)
  3. Jan 30th: Afternoon, a delivery notice card appears in my mailbox. Apparently there was no answer again, even though I was home all day with my son. With the package in the house already.

So today, Canada Post attempted to deliver a phantom package in the afternoon since I had already picked up the real thing in the morning. That has to count for something in the logistics field!
